UXMA has moved to 686 Grand Street! United Xtreme Martial Arts is a Taekwondo Gym that’s been on Grand Street for over 18 years at their previous location. Led by Masters Olga and Fabricio Rodriguez, UXMA teaches students of all ages. Their new location is filled with renovations and new equipment, including brand new mats, sparring equipment, and more.
We caught up with Jorge - a 12 year old student at UXMA who’s been doing Taekwondo at the gym for 8 years. Jorge is heading to Brazil in May to compete in an international Taekwondo competition. He credits Karate Kid as his inspiration to start doing Taekwondo - specifically the later films starring Jaden Smith. Jorge would spend hours online watching clips of kick boxing and other martial arts, growing his love for the sport. Besides Taekwondo, Jorge has a love for basketball. He plays when he can and tunes into the Knicks to watch Karl Anthony-Towns, his favorite player.
